Transfer data from an iPhone to a Pixel

You can copy your iPhone data, like texts, photos, music, contacts, apps, and calendars to a Pixel phone. Get tips on how to use your phone.

Step 1: Items you can copy to your Pixel

What copies during setup

  • Texts, iMessages, and all iMessage content, like photos, videos, and other media
  • WhatsApp chat history
  • Phone and iCloud contacts and calendars
  • Photos and videos saved on your iPhone
  • Apps
    Tip: Many unpaid iPhone apps have Android versions. You automatically get the Android versions from Google Play (where available) when you set up your Pixel.
  • Photos, videos, and other media on iMessages
  • Most music
    Important: Music with iTunes Digital Rights Management protection won't transfer. Music downloaded from Google Play or YouTube Music doesn't transfer either. Learn how to download music to listen to offline.
  • Some wallpapers, like photos
  • Call history
  • Home screen layout

Important: Contacts and calendars that you copy to your Pixel phone sync and upload to your Google Account online. Info associated with your Google Account syncs when you sign in to your account on your Pixel phone.

What won't copy during setup

  • App data
  • Paid apps
  • Unpaid apps not matched on the Play Store
  • In-app purchases
  • Photos where an original isn't stored on your iPhone
    Tip: When you turn on Optimize Storage, original photos are in iCloud and not on your iPhone. Lower resolution versions of your photos won't copy, even if they're stored on your iPhone.
  • Photos, videos, documents, and other files stored in iCloud. Learn how to request a transfer of iCloud photos and videos to Google Photos.
  • Phone settings, like Wi-Fi passwords
  • Music with iTunes Digital Rights Management protection
  • Accounts other than Google Accounts and their data
  • Contacts and calendars synced to services other than Google or iCloud
  • Bookmarks from Safari
  • Some third-party chat app data

Step 2: Get ready to copy

  1. Charge both of your phones.
  2. Find what you need. Learn what comes with your phone.
    • The Quick Switch Adapter
    • A cable that works with your iPhone, like the one you use to charge
    • Your SIM card and SIM card insertion tool, unless you have an eSIM
  3. On your iPhone:
    • Turn off iMessage and Facetime. Learn how to turn off iMessage.
    • If an organization, like a business or school, manages your iPhone, it can limit your transfer. Learn what you can do.
  4. On your Pixel phone:
    1. Turn on your Pixel.
    2. Insert your SIM card into your phone. Learn how to get a SIM card and insert it.
    3. A "Start" button appears on screen. If you don't see "Start," learn how to return to setup.

Step 3: Copy your data

Copy data from your old phone with a cable (recommended)

  1. On your Pixel phone:
    • Tap Start.
    • Connect to a Wi-Fi network or mobile carrier.
  2. When asked to "Copy Apps & Data," tap Next and then Copy your data.
  3. When asked to "Use your old device", tapNext.
  4. Turn on and unlock your current phone.
  5. Plug one end of a cable into your current phone.
  6. Plug the cable's other end into your Pixel phone or into the Quick Switch Adapter and plug the adapter into your Pixel phone.
  7. On your current phone, tap Copy.
  8. Follow the on-screen instructions.
  9. On your Pixel phone, you'll see a list of your data.
    • To copy all your data, tap Copy.
    • To copy only some data:
      • Turn off what you don't want.
      • Tap Copy.
  10. When your transfer is done, you can use your phone.

Copy data from a cloud backup

  1. On your Pixel phone:
    • Tap Start.
    • Connect to a Wi-Fi network or your mobile carrier.
  2. When asked to "Copy Apps & Data," tap Next.
  3. When asked to "Use your old device," tap Can't use old phone.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to log in to your Google Account and access your backup.
